SUBJECT: Vote for NDP Opposition Day Motion on Palestine
I am horrified by the humanitarian catastrophe and loss of life in Gaza that has continued despite the overwhelming calls for justice across the world.
You have the opportunity to do the right thing. This March you will be able to vote in support of an NDP Opposition Motion calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, an arms embargo on Israel and more. Although it is not perfect, I urge you to speak up and vote in favour of this motion as a meaningful step toward ending this ongoing genocide.
How you vote on this critical motion will influence what I do, including whether I vote for you in the upcoming election.
The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 30,000, with violence by the Israeli state only continuing to increase in recent months. Despite the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice in January, Israel’s military is killing an average of 250 people each day. Even Rafah, a designated safe zone for Palestinians escaping Israel's brutal attacks, is now facing heavy bombardment. Palestinians are being killed as they wait for humanitarian aid.
Canada has both a moral and legal obligation to do everything in its power to prevent genocide, yet this government continues to support and profit off of the loss of civilian lives. I, along with the majority of Canadians, am ashamed by this government’s complicity in the most violent genocide in recent years.
I urge you to vote in favour of the NDP Opposition Day Motion which is calling on the federal government to (among other things):
Every Member of Parliament, including you, has a role to play. You must support this motion. The majority of your constituents demand that you do so. I know community members are reaching out to you across multiple platforms and are losing faith in your orientation towards justice. We ask YOU to be vocal and speak up in Parliament, and over social media, and to traditional media in favour of this motion.
I will continue speaking up and taking action, and come election time, I will make sure everyone knows how you acted in these crucial days.
